Empowering Nature’s Solutions

Empowering Nature’s Solutions

Sustainable and Scalable

Climate change is the biggest health threat we face today. It impacts human health through air pollution, disease, loss of plant and animal species, and extreme weather events. This crisis creates forced displacement, increased poverty, and a lack of food security. If we are to avoid the disastrous impacts of climate change, it will take a massive undertaking!

We will need to dramatically reduce carbon emissions, continue our efforts in capturing GHG and develop a sustainable method to capture ambient CO2 directly from the atmosphere and sequester it for centuries.

Reactive Surfaces Canada’s innovative carbon capture modular system has the potential to remove and sequester billions of tons of CO2 each year.

Efficient and Effective

Technologies being used in carbon dioxide removal are new and have inherent flaws. They fall short of their emission reduction promises made due to their lack of additionality, measurability, or simply are not sequestering more CO2 than they are emitting within their system. Also, storing captured CO2 liquid miles deep into the earth carries its own degree of risk and uncertainty.

Algae is nature’s photosynthetic powerhouse, and we embed in cellulose mats to better mimic its natural structure. We maximize the surface area by hanging the coated sheets in an aluminum frame modular, stackable system. The module is designed so that the algae in the cellulose sheets can simply absorb sunlight, photosynthesize, and grow. Cellulose amasses a significant amount of carbon retaining algal biomass that we then harvest. Instead of injecting CO2 deep into the earth, we heat and dry the collected algal biomass and durably sequester the CO2 in a powered biomass for hundreds of years.
